Just 10 minutes from the South Australian border, this isolated town sits 1,430 kilometers from Perth by road and makes an ideal stop on your Nullarbor adventure.

He enjoys the interactive exhibits and even boards a 793c Haul Truck and a 994-wheel loader, paying particular attention to their mirrors, naturally! He also explores the Chinese Garden of Remembrance, a beautiful tribute to the contribution of Chinese miners in the area.

Uncle Mike is still exploring Hannans North Tourist Mine, discovering the secrets of gold rush history and modern-day mining in the Goldfields.

It’s the original mine manager’s residence, and one of those managers was none other than Herbert Hoover himself, who later became the 31st President of the United States!

Stocked up and ready, they head north towards Derby, crossing the iconic single-lane bridge over the legendary Fitzroy River, home to crocs and the elusive Barramundi – both safe from Mike’s fishing attempts!
Their next stop? The historic Boab Prison Tree in Derby, known as Kunumudj. Standing for over 1,500 years, this magnificent tree boasts a circumference of over 14 metres with a fascinating hollow centre. Whilst it is known to have been used for several different purposes throughout history – The Boab prison tree is also said to have been used as a prison, or as a holding area for Aboriginal prisoners being transported long distances to the gaol at Derby.

(Kalumburu Road in Western Australia is a 267 km unsealed road that is often inaccessible during the wet season. It connects to the famous Gibb River Road. Along this route, you can experience Mitchell Falls and explore the natural beauty of Mitchell River National Park.)
Along this road trip, you can spot all the notorious washouts, rough floodways, corrugated roads, a left-behind jack-off camp canopy, and even stock cranes left behind from a road train truck!
Heading along the Gibb River Road, take a glimpse of the gorgeous landscape our world has to offer! Then… An unexpected pitstop had to be made due to the conditions of the Gibb River Road, can you guess why?
